In Malaysia, a person who want to obtain a motorcar driving license he/she needs to attend a six hours theoretically courses at a lecture hall and thereafter, a 16 hours practical driving lessons and with no less than 10 hours on the training driving on the road before he/she could eligible for a driving test which would be conducted by JPJ (road transport department).
In Safety Driving Institute, we have all the above facilities all in one: That is air-conditioned lecture halls, driving circuit, institute’s motorcars be they manual or auto and a team of licensed, experienced driving instructors.
Our institute not only aims at helping learners to obtain a driving license , we also instilled to them a good driving etiquette which is a skill they would be cherished for theirs lifetime.
Our institute follow the JPJ’s Driver’s Education Curriculum which emphasis not only skill to drive a motorcar but also the right behaviour while driving on the road.
There are things you should avoid and things you must do while and before start driving your vehicle onto the road.
According to the Malaysia Driver’s Education Curriculum, to be a good driver you must have the following characteristics, that is responsible, concentration, patience , foresight and confidence.
First of all, you have the responsible to make sure your vehicle is well maintained by conducting a basic routine car inspection(RPK) and a routine before car driving inspection(RSM) before start hitting to the roads.
These are the routine checks to make sure your vehicle has enough water in the radiator, engine oil and brake fluid both must be at maximum level and also the alternator belt is still tight. The reason for checking the above elements were because the water, oil/fluid and rubber would become lesser or worn up after prolonged driving.
Finally, the four tyres should also be check for enough air pressured, tyre’s thread still visible and physically conditions were good.
This above (RPK)routine checks procedures is to make sure that the car you are driving would not suddenly stalled halfway on the road due to mechanical faults. If this happened, it’s not only inconvenienced to other road users but also endanger yourselves when you were stranded in the middle of the road.
Before starting the car engine. A pre-driving routine check on all the signal lights, horn, seatbelt , side and rear mirrors is a necessary.
This is to ensure you could used the above devices to communicate with other road users effectively during lane changing or the direction you are intending to head in a safely manners.
Secondly, asked yourselves first, are you going to drive with full concentration? You should avoid driving when you are feeling tired or not feeling well. It is strongly advisable not to drive if you are in a state of bad mood/anger.
Bear in mind, you should avoid using cell phone or listening to loud music which could take away your concentration while you are on the wheels.
The most dangerous drivers are those who were driving in a state of intoxicated by alcohol drink or illicit drugs. According to the statistic these errant drivers were the main contributes to the road accidents.
Thirdly, you must have patience. Never beat the traffic lights even thought you are in hurry, please plan your journey well before heading to your destination.
Be forgiving when other road users make mistake on the road. Do avoid create conflict with an ill-mannered driver which may end yourselves up a victim of road rage.
Fourthly, you must have a foresight to avoid accident from happening. You must be prepare for any hazard that you may face while driving on the road.
Obey strictly the road signs, which are mends to tell the condition of the roads or what kind of surrounding areas you are are going to drive through.
In short, foresight in driving is a skill on how to executing appropriate actions in response to face difference hazards encountered on the roads.
Lastly, to be a good driver you must be able drive your vehicle confidently on the road.
At our Driving institute our experienced driving instructors would coached you to drive safely. We would also goes a step further by explaining how the car mechanism functions, so that you can maneuvering the car smoothly using the various features of the car.
The JPJ appointed fixed road driving test on which they are conducting for our students are full of challenging. There are six traffic lights stops, some are located on the slope.
As the students driving along the 3.4 km strech of road there were tests on ascending and descending on slope and they must be able to drive without having their vehicle stalled halfway.
Beside, there are two sharp bends where the students must skillfully navigate their vehicle through to pass the driving test.
We also encourage our students to go for long distance drive to prepare them to drive at different road conditions. One of the example is driving along a busy highway within the Petaling Jaya area.
This however, must be upon the agreement of both instructor and learner and also a prior approval must be obtained from the institute as well.
